This was how the site looked when I decided to rework it to try and help it feel more user friendly. The search bar blends in with the background of the page and the real focus is on the colored boxes.
What I did here was I placed a large focus on the search bar. The locations of the different campuses in the valley is also shown in a map, along with their operating times. A person could also search just within books or articles by clicking the menu bars and seeing the three different categories.
I included what a chat window would look like between a student and a librarian. The classes under the students pictures would help the librarian to know what books the student needs.
Both of these pages show the interface the student would see after starting a search. They would be able to see which school locations have books checked out. They can also place a reserve on a book to notify them when the book becomes available.
